See how people in Bristol and Somerset are using the Green Deal to improve their homes

The aim of this website is to encourage people in Bristol and Somerset to undertake low-carbon home improvements through the Green Deal.

It gives householders who have done this – for example by insulating their home, installing micro-renewables or draught-proofing their windows and doors –  the chance to share this with others, and to rate the installers who carried out the work.

You can browse the map below to find case studies near you, filtering the results by the type of home and by the type of improvement.

We are the Centre for Sustainable Energy, a registered charity based in Bristol. Why not check out our Home Energy Advice website to get impartial support and advice before undertaking your new home energy improvement project.

Very helpful discussion with the assessor.

The assessor was very thorough, asked us for information and explained everything he was doing; also about the Green Deal system. He telephoned a couple of times afterwards to check details and tell us where he'd go to. The problem seemed to be with the computer software which entered things by default. We also had to phone the company to ask for the report after several weeks.I don't think this was the assessor's fault.
We found it hard to understand why the suggested measures in the Green Deal report didn't match those listed in the EPC.

He told me about the process and its problems eg default settings. I think assessors do not make it clear that people may have to pay more than the golden rule or they can use affordable warmth. And people think the green deal will provide something that it will not.

It was fine. Largely what I expected really. You do get the feeling that the whole scheme is kind of a ham-fisted attempt by government to fit things into neat boxes, which doesn't quite work (e.g. the expected energy saving figures). It's pretty basic stuff, so if it wasn't for the whole Green Deal thing I probably wouldn't bother with an assessment.

The assessor was very friendly, sadly he was a little late arriving. The EPC confirmed we have made all the sensible improvements to our bungalow.
